Safety Education Manager 12 month fixed term


  • Salary: £41,496 - £46,549 per annum, Grade 6
  • Hours: Full time 37 hours per week
  • Location Service Headquarters, Calcot, Reading

A 12 month fixed term position has arisen for a Safety Education Manager within the Prevention and Protection Directorate.

About you:

This post will be an opportunity for a person who is ambitious and seeking opportunities within the Fire Sector or internally to develop a range of managerial and prevention skills in a complex and dynamic organisation with a passion to drive and deliver continually improving fire safety services to the public.

Applications are welcomed from internal and external candidates who are able to demonstrate suitable transferable knowledge, skills and experience.

You will utilise professional experience as well as fire safety knowledge and understanding to support and develop not only this Team but also the wider Service Delivery Directorates taking actions to achieve corporate objectives and ensure the delivery of excellent public services.

You will bring a level of supportive and strong leadership to manage current business as usual safety education work as well as supporting project programmes across the organisation, building effective senior relationships, finding the best solution to challenges and being critically aware of costs and resources and then making the change happen.

You will be working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders which will include the Service Delivery Hub Teams, Safeguarding Teams, Schools, Thames Valley Partners and the National Fire Chiefs Council so it is essential that you have excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills, to allow you to develop contacts and build relationships.

The key focus of this role is:

  • Management and co-ordination of all Safety Education activities for Children and young people.
  • Provision and management of all Volunteer activities for the Service (for duration of FTC).
  • Financial oversight of the Safety Education Team and Volunteers managing salary /non-salary items and monthly forecasting up to approx. £200,000.
  • Risk management for all Safety Education and Volunteer activities for the Service.
  • On-going development of local, regional and national safety education and intervention programmes for RBFRS following best practice ensuring effective delivery to a high level of quality, consistent with our Strategic Commitments.
  • On-going development, provision, and maintenance of policy and procedures applicable to Safety Education and Volunteer activities within the Prevention and Protection Directorate (when applicable).
  • Quality Assurance and Evaluation of Safety Education & Volunteer activities and services.
  • Full review and reporting for all Safety Education activities for Children and young people.

Key role requirements (knowledge, skills and experience):

  • Ability to provide appropriate leadership, supervision and support to all team members.
  • Experience of forming and maintaining productive working relationships both internally and externally
  • Experience of Community Safety and partnership working.
  • Experience of supervising work with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Good knowledge of evaluation and assurance practices and measurable assessment tools.
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial management budget and procurement processes.
  • Experience of leading and delivering change and service improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate complex data, identifying issues and trends.

An enhanced DBS is a requirement of this role.
