Job description

Are you a Project Controls Coordinator who is excited by the opportunity to shape and define the project delivery of some of the biggest defence programmes in the UK today? If so, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Project Controls Coordinator to join our Helicopters Operating Centres (HOC) in DE&S, to be located at the site of your choice either: Yeovil, RNAS Culdrose, Wattisham Flying Station or RAF Odiham & Benson.You'll be working with the teams responsible for the in-service support of helicopters within DE&S. Working closely with suppliers, the team manage projects to add new capabilities, modifications, training systems and logistical support for spares and repairs for these helicopters which have a crucial role for the UK Army and Navy and search and rescue.As a Project Controls Coordinator, you will work hand-in-hand with our Project Controls Managers and Project Managers driving delivery, ensuring the right structure, information and analysis is provided at the right time and also ensuring decisions are informed and projects are successfully delivered. You will be empowered to drive accountability and will be responsible for assisting with estimating, risk management, cost control, planning, scheduling through to performance reporting and management.Project Controls are crucial to the successful delivery of our work, and we are keen to support your professional development within this sector.

You will be based at your chosen site. Initially you will be expected to attend the site more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, team, and role that you will be filling in more detail. We operate a hybrid working environment and, once your manager feels that you are sufficiently settled in, the expectation will be to attend site according to business need, which can vary from role to role, but on average is around twice a week.

A background in the defence sector is not a prerequisite as we welcome applicants from a broad spectrum of industries and sectors.

Responsibilities

As a Project Controls Coordinator, your main responsibility will be to:

  • Assist/undertake with assuring the quality and accuracy of all project controls data and artefacts produced by the project controls team utilised by the project.
  • Assist/ undertake in the development and operation of the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB), incorporating at an appropriate level both OPEX and CAPEX to aid effective performance analysis and project management.
  • Work with PM and commercial teams to ensure that contractors and suppliers data is received in a timely manner, in an appropriate format and to the required quality.
  • Work with and advise internal stakeholders (Project Controls Managers, Project Managers Operations Managers) to ensure coherent effective communication of project performance analysis (single version of truth) and forward-looking tasking and activities.
  • Co-ordinate project risks (Threats and Opportunities), alerting senior stakeholders to the need of appropriate recovery action.
  • Co-ordinate project scope and change through robust assumptions management and change control mitigation to ensure that only documented authorised changes are made at the right level.

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Have experience of at least one element of Project Delivery (e.g., risk management, estimating, planning & scheduling, cost control)
  • Previous experience within a Project Delivery position OR relevant experience within a project environment
