Summary

We have a new and unique role as the Derwent Tyne Way Community & Participation Consultant.

In this role you'll play a key role in working with stakeholders including volunteers, partners, and people in the surrounding communities to develop & deliver the ambitious Derwent Tyne Way Vision. We want to transform Derwent Tyne Way into a connected, cherished, and accessible nature, culture and heritage rich place created for the benefit of local people and nature.

The role will be hosted by the National Trust but delivery will be through the Derwent Tyne Way Partnership which includes; Gateshead Council, the National Trust, and Tyne & Wear Building Preservation Trust. The roles are funded through the UK Government Levelling Up programme, specifically the Shared Prosperity Fund.

Salary: £36,773pa

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week. The role will be hosted by the National Trust

Contract: Fixed term for 2 years from start of appointment (until July 2025)

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for developing an understanding the context through asset mapping and connecting with communities and organisational representatives to understand their concerns and priorities.

Working with all stakeholders to consult on and help shape proposals for the area. Working with the Volunteer & Community Manager, you'll create community partnerships which will ensure that our stakeholders and community are integral to shaping how the Gateshead Riverside area and beyond develops. You'll have a strong understanding of the scope for change and advise and challenge the Partnership board as required.

Who we're looking for

Ideally you'll have:

  • demonstrable experience of developing and delivering community participation strategies within a time limited project context
  • confidence in working in an inclusive way with all stakeholders and diverse communities to understand and reflect community priorities and concerns within the project area
  • confidence to represent the Derwent Tyne Way project at local groups and championing the core partnership and the project to all stakeholders and the local community
  • excellent people and communication skills enabling strong relationships to be built and maintained
  • experience in developing systems for the collection and sharing of data and confident presenting this information in a variety of settings
  • experience of report writing to funders and other stakeholders
  • and be comfortable working as part of a team whilst being confident working independently when this is required.

You'll also have a full clean DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check and a strong understanding of excellent safeguarding and health and safety practice when lone working and working with vulnerable children and adults, with experience of writing risk assessments.
