We are very pleased to announce that our Civils team have been awarded the Key Delivery Partner (KDP) 8 framework contract at Sellafield, Cumbria.

This framework will see projects being delivered through an industry leading collaboration between the client, programme partners, delivery partners and suppliers working together as an integrated team.

Our role will include design development and delivery of the Concrete Structures, Groundworks and Blockwork package, estimated to be worth around 500M over the next 15+ years.

As a result of this major framework win, we are now seeking a Chief Engineer to join us a senior member of the team, responsible for the management of a group of technical professionals in the timely execution of operations in both the pre-construction and construction phases of seismically qualified concrete structures working on our 17-year civils and concrete structures framework for the PPP on Sellafield. It is anticipated that this role will be based in Knutsford/Warrington for approximately 18 months, then the role will be on site in Sellafield. This role may also include managing the provision of;temporary works designs, value engineering, digital construction solutions including 4D planning and other specialists. You will play a lead role in ensuring that the works are delivered to the highest Quality standards and will demonstrate leadership in embedding a Quality Culture throughout the Team as well as upskilling and mentoring the engineers and works staff too. Occasionally acting as Construction Manager/Engineering Manager during periods of illness or holiday and who is jointly responsible, with the Construction Manager, for the technical competency and or delivery of all Quality and Technical aspects solutions to the project.

The Chief Engineer role:

  • Influence and inspire their staff to adopt a Quality First approach to all aspects of the project
  • Ensure the management of the project in accordance with theCompany Management System (CMS) such that SRM's policies and legislation in terms of quality, environmental and safety are complied with.
  • Manage the project such that the SRM's objectives in terms of cost and programme are met
  • Reviewing technical specifications/drawings along with design submissions, buildability & commisionability for compliance with:
    • The Contractor's Proposals / Employer's Requirements,Statutory Requirements,The Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015, The Construction Cost Plan.
  • Carry out regular inspections (surveillances) of installations to monitor quality, compliance and progress
  • Ensuring all works are technically compliant with the contract documents and construction issue specifications and drawings
  • Ensure engineering staff are mentored and upskilled, to a high level of understanding, of the specifications relevant to their areas of work
  • Ensure that method statements, risk assessments and inspection & test plans (paying particular attention to quality requirements) are reviewed and approved.
  • Participate in the development of processes to deliver a Quality First culture
  • Provide buildability support and due diligence reports on structural design solutions carried out by external consultants
  • Ensure quality construction standards and suitable construction techniques are adopted and maintained in order to provide a defect free end product
  • To ensure that client change requests are considered for impact on programme cost, resources, etc. by working with the design and commercial teams
  • Provide forensic engineering support to the company to establish efficient solutions to any defects that may arise on any construction related project.

Your profile:

  • Detailed understanding and operational knowledge of heavy civil engineering, concrete structures and preferably with experience working in the nuclear industry.
  • Proven technical, engineering background at an operational level, (Chief Engineer, Section Engineer, Senior Engineer, Design Manager, Engineering Managers) on heavy civil engineeringprojects circa million
  • Experienced in the identification, assessment, management and application of project risks and opportunities
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of technical engineering practices policies and procedures, relevant to the role, which may include broader sector/commercial awareness.
  • Developed leader who has the ability at leading and managing people and technical teams in a project management environment.
  • Ability to plan and organise self and work in order to achieve objectives and targets
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbally, with a high level of attention to detail including the ability to consult, negotiate and liaise with a diverse range of people
  • Proven ability and experienced in successfully delivering business wide cultural change programmes
  • Degree qualified
  • Membership of construction industry related Professional Body (e.g ICE, CIOB, RICS, ICE, CIBSE, IStructE, etc)
  • Relevant Construction Skills Certificate Card
