Job Description

Are you a reliable, friendly, enthusiastic and efficient Caretaker who is keen to contribute positively to the life of cricket at Arundel castle?

If so this could be the role for you!

This is a great opportunity to be a part of a friendly team, and to work on our world-renowned cricket estate. Ideally you will have some handyman experience in a similar role or can demonstrate a keen interest and capability to carry out basic maintenance and DIY tasks, and an awareness of Health and Safety.

The successful candidate will be reliable and able to work on their own initiative while able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. The candidate will be helping to enhance the presentation of the ground and buildings, while carrying out a programme of detailed maintenance work as directed by the Chief Operating Officer and Senior Groundsman.

The job description and person specification will outline the main aspects of the role.

Hours / Working Pattern:

15 hours a week.

8am - 11am

5 days a week (inc. most Sundays and occasional Saturday during the cricket season)

Holiday:

5 weeks a year pro rata + bank holidays.

(15 hours holiday can be taken May - Sept)

Job Description:

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all general maintenance tasks are completed within all buildings.
  • Support general upkeep of grounds and grass areas
  • Support preparation of the ground for match days
    • Players & Spectator Areas / Requirements
    • Marquee Area
    • Tea Hut Terrace
  • Opening of buildings on all match days
  • Ensure all furniture and fittings are in full compliance with our standards of safety and comfort.
  • Adhere to company and statutory health and safety procedures and policies.
  • Any other maintenance duties required by the Chief Operating Officer or Senior Groundsman

Weekly Jobs include:

Buildings:

  • Painting
  • Woodwork maintenance
  • Basic Repair

Grass Areas:

  • Fence Assembly / Repair
  • Hedge Trimming
  • Rotary Grass Cutting (visitor areas)
  • Strimming
  • Maintenance & watering of flower beds and hanging baskets

Prior to Match Days:

  • Gazebo Assembly
  • Chair Layout
  • Marquee
  • Furniture assembly
  • Ground layout procedures - as requested
  • Ensure all outside bins are emptied

Match Days:

  • Opening of all buildings
    • Pavilion
    • Scorebox
    • Indoor School
  • Check all buildings to ensure that ground is safe to operate

Key Criteria:

  • An understanding of the main Health & Safety Regulations
  • Experience of carrying out specialist building maintenance work, within the reasonable capacity of a normal handyperson
  • Ability to carry out repair and maintenance work with expertise in DIY - eg woodwork, painting, grass cutting and decorating skills
  • Experience of keeping work records
